Pembrokeshire Day 1 – A Welsh Breakfast

One of the perks of the job as we travel around Britain gathering pictures and features for our websites www.choicemag.co.uk and www.enjoybritainonline.co.uk is a midweek cooked breakfast.

When we arrived at the Old Dairy Cottage near Mathry midway between Haverfordwest and Fishguard in the beautiful Pembrokeshire countryside we were not to be disappointed. Waiting for us was a Welsh Breakfast hamper one of the concierge services offered by Coastal Cottages Pembrokeshire.

Among the goodies were free range eggs, large tomatoes (apparently in short supply nationally at the moment) local butcher’s sausages, black pudding, sumptuous back bacon, mushrooms and a tin of baked beans plus crusty loaf, farm milk, jam and marmalade and a pack of Welsh butter.

All we had to do is cook it. Now, two men cooking breakfast means a few minutes mayhem and a kitchen that wouldn’t be approved by our other halves.

But it was great to film as it sizzled away and delicious, too, with enough left in the fridge for tomorrow.

Now with the kitchen cleared up and spotless we are enjoying a cuppa and congratulating ourselves!

Old Dairy Cottage is part of the portfolio of Coastal Cottages of Pembrokeshire, family run for 40 years – a holiday cottage agency based in West Wales featuring around 500 properties sleeping from two to 28 guests.

Forty per cent of the collection is dog-friendly and the in-house Concierge team can arrange a selection of hand-crafted holiday extras and treats including welcome packages and exclusive outdoor and in-cottage experiences from chefs to yoga sessions. They will even tailor-make itineraries!

Coastal Cottages welcomes 60,000 holidaymakers and 4,000 dogs to Pembrokeshire each year – 70% of bookings are repeats. £3 from every break booked goes towards the company’s Coastal Communities Fund, which donates to a multitude of projects that invest back into the county. www.coastalcottages.co.uk, 01437 765 765
